THANE: The
Thane anti-extortion cell on Tuesday took custody of
gangster Ejaz Lakdawala on Tuesday, in connection with a case registered in 2019 in
Maharashtra’s Kalyan area.
Lakdawala is known to have worked with Dawood Ibrahim, post which he formed his own gang. The accused is known to have over 20 cases against him for offences like murder, half murder, extortion etc.
“In 2019, he had threatened to kill a milk vendor, Maruk Kotal. He had demanded Rs 2 crore. When the businessman refused, he threatened to kill him. We have all the conversations (SMS) as to the threats and money demanded,” said Rajkumar Kothmire, senior inspector at the anti-extortion cell.
The police stated that last year Lakdawala was arrested from Patna airport by Mumbai anti-extortion cell and was in Taloja jail, but as
Thane police had to investigate the case registered at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan, he was taken into custody.
